When Kubota, a global leader in agricultural and construction machinery, set out to build its new European headquarters in Nieuw-Vennep, the Netherlands, the vision was clear: create a space with a strong connection to nature, a comfortable indoor climate and optimum energy performance.
Natural light played a key role in the design, seen as essential for employee well-being and productivity, and in shaping the central atrium as the “heart of the building.” This atrium would serve as a communal space filled with greenery, fostering a sense of calm and cohesion throughout the workspace. Kubota also sought energy efficiency, aiming to reduce reliance on artificial lighting and heating.
The architectural ambition was to blend Japanese design sensibilities with modern modular construction, resulting in a building that is both functional and emotionally resonant.
The VELUX Commercial daylight solution
We partnered with Klunder Architects and construction firm Dijkham Bouw to deliver a tailored daylight solution that met all the project’s goals. The installation included 50 Modular Skylights with prefabricated sunscreens, 24 Modular Rooflight Monolight modules, and 4 Linearlights.
These skylights and rooflights flood the building with daylight, even reaching the lower levels, and provide for an energy-efficient design. The prefabricated nature of the products allowed for rapid installation, with glazing completed in just one day. The result is a workspace where employees benefit from improved comfort and performance, while the building itself reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and well-being. The large skylights complement the timber constructions and the greenery, strengthening the connection to nature.
