VELUX Modular Skylights, Step Solution is awarded the “Red Dot” in the category of Product Design 2020. The international jury awarded this sought-after seal of quality to our product: the VELUX Modular Skylights, Step Solution.

Multiple rows of skylight modules connected create a large glass roof

As the product name indicates, the new VELUX Step Solution has a unique step structure where multiple rows of skylight modules can be connected to create a large glass roof. It is characterized by a minimalistic design with a coherent and elegant structure with thin supporting beams.

The new VELUX Step Solution is a technologically advanced product, specifically suited to commercial and public buildings, both new build and refurbishment.

The new solution is available in three different configurations:

• Step Longlight 5-25°
• Step Ridgelight 25°
• Step Ridgelight 5-25° on Girder.
  
  

Detailed evaluation of the products entered

In 2020, designers and companies from 60 countries entered more than 6,500 products in the competition.

Each year, several thousand entries are registered for the Red Dot Award making it one of the largest design competitions in the world.

An international jury awards companies within the three categories of 

• Red Dot Award: Product Design
• Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design  
• Red Dot Award: Design Concept.

First introduced in 1955, the Red Dot Award the jury awards products that feature an outstanding design. Its distinction, the Red Dot, is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design. From products, brand communication and creative projects to design concepts and prototypes, the Red Dot Award documents the most prominent trends worldwide. Due to hidden actuators, the venting modules appear identical to fixed modules when closed, creating a sleek and uniform aesthetic. Factory-finished flashings between each row ensures effective drainage of water from the roof. The installation of the new Step Solution creates vibrant spaces and openness with natural light in, for instance, public buildings.
