An office building which combines energy savings with thermal comfort
This office building near Montpellier presented two main challenges: to deliver high levels of natural light and provide natural ventilation.
The architect's main objective was to create a low-energy building for offices while ensuring real thermal comfort. For the client, soundproofing was a priority and the project manager wanted a quick solution for installation. VELUX modular skylights, with their high energy performance and speed of installation, were quickly sought.
The purpose of the skylight was to bring natural light into the building, whilst meeting a number of requirements: providing natural ventilation in summer and thermal insulation in winter; effective soundproofing to ensure a high quality office working space and, finally, a quick and easy installation.
A VELUX Ridgelight configuration with 26 modules, including 4 opening modules, was selected to provide automatic ventilation in the building, avoiding overheating by making full use of the effects of heat circulation. The thermal glazing with reinforced resistance and the pultruded composite material (80% fiberglass, 20% polyurethane) used in the skylight frames provide the desired thermal insulation and soundproofing.
Finally, since the components of the skylight are fully prefabricated and delivered directly to the site, the installation of the modular skylight was quick and easy for GM Fermeture.
