A passage of light
Recently, the 18th century Immerath church was demolished to make way for an open-cast brown coal mine in the town of Erkelenz in Germany.
A brand new church took its place and became the first church in Germany built according to the passive house standard.
Next to the church building, a passageway connects the chapel with meeting rooms and the sacristy.
To let in daylight and fresh air, 30 VELUX modular skylights were installed along the entire length of the passageway.
The skylights were fitted with blinds to avoid glare and overheating.

The church is a nearly-zero energy building using geothermal and solar energy for heating.
The light and friendly passageway with direct view to the sky is much appreciated by the visitors.
