Omnia & WUR Centre
A multipurpose educational facility in the Netherlands makes daylight central to design goals
The Netherlands
Natural light fills up communal spaces to inspire and celebrate the development of learning
Omnia and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Centre is a CO₂ neutral building in the Netherlands that is improving the well-being of occupants with optimized daylight.
A striking design aesthetic and events venue full of daylight
Described as a ‘pavilion on the green’ by Broekbakema Architects, this striking multipurpose space invites open-minded discussions at a venue that brings people together to share ideas in conferences and meetings, celebrate graduations, hold events and develop through professional education.
Central to the design was creating a connection to the outdoors and 90 percent floor to ceiling window facades and roof glazing allow daylight to enter the building and light up spaces.
A total of 14 Circularlight rooflights help daylight penetrate deep into spaces such as narrow corridors, reception and conference rooms. Omnia is the perfect venue for scientists, students, and businesses to come together.
Bespoke rooflights provide daylight through the roof
Circularlights were chosen for their ability to optimize daylight exposure without intrusive frames or profiles being visible from inside the building. Prefabrication meant a fast and simple installation was possible. Bespoke size rooflights also meant they could be placed above spaces such as corridors where access to daylight can be difficult to achieve through the facade.
