Frequently asked questions

What types of commercial or public buildings benefit most from the use of Circularlight rooflights?

Circularlight is particularly beneficial for buildings aiming to achieve a distinctive or iconic roof design. They are ideal for buildings like schools, universities, daycare facilities, retirement homes, hospitals, shopping centers, libraries, office spaces, hotels, and conference centers. These environments benefit from Circularlight's ability to provide natural illumination with a distinctive aesthetic element that enhances architectural expression. Its round shape provides a unique visual element that stands apart from conventional rectangular rooflights.

How does Circularlight enhance architectural aesthetics while still offering strong daylight performance?

Circularlight enhances architectural aesthetics through its distinctive round profile that creates a unique styling element on both exterior and interior surfaces. The round shape can be used individually or in patterns to create visual interest. Despite its decorative qualities, Circularlight maintains excellent light performance with high light transmittance (80%) and good solar factor (61%) when equipped with double glazing and low emissivity coating. This combination allows architects to achieve distinctive design elements without compromising the primary function of bringing natural light into interior spaces.

Can Circularlight help reduce operational lighting costs in central building zones?

Circularlight can help reduce operational lighting costs in central building zones thanks to its excellent light transmittance properties. With 80% light transmittance, Circularlight maximizes the amount of natural daylight entering interior spaces, potentially reducing reliance on artificial lighting during daylight hours. Circularlight's effectiveness would be most pronounced in central areas of buildings where natural side lighting from windows is not possible.

Can I install roller blinds for Circularlight?

No, roller blinds for Circularlight are not available. For environments where controlled shading is necessary, other Modular Rooflight types are recommended.

How does Circularlight perform in buildings with acoustic or temperature sensitivity, such as healthcare or educational facilities?

Circularlight provides moderate acoustic and thermal performance suitable for many sensitive environments. With double glazing, it offers airborne sound reduction of 37 dB and thermal transmittance of 1.7 W/m²K for the entire module. While these specifications are adequate for many applications, they are not as high-performing as our triple-glazed options (which reach 45 dB sound reduction and 1.1-1.2 W/m²K thermal transmittance). For extremely sensitive healthcare environments or educational facilities in extreme climates, other VELUX Commercial Modular Rooflight variants with triple glazing might be more appropriate. Circularlight would be suitable for moderately sensitive spaces where its architectural benefits are valued alongside adequate acoustic and thermal performance.

Is Circularlight available in fixed and vented versions?

Circularlight is only available as fixed, without ventilation capabilities. Buildings requiring both the aesthetic benefits of Circularlight and natural ventilation would need to incorporate separate ventilation solutions or choose other VELUX Commercial products like Monolight or Linearlight that offer venting options.
