Product details

In short

The Ridgelight at 5° is a self-supporting structure comprised of two rows of skylights with beams supporting the module sides.

The modular Ridgelight at 5° with beams is the ideal solution for large roof openings, bringing daylight into galleries, circulation areas and small internal courts. The Ridgelights add to the look and feel of the room and create an illusion of a small glass roof.

VELUX skylight specialists offer support throughout design, specification and installation, including design of the sub-construction needed for installation.

Create a unique skylight solution

By adapting the interior lining, modular Ridgelights at 5° with beams can be used in non-square designs, e.g. obtuse angles, acute angles or ovals. By using adapted linings, the modular skylights can meet the demands of modern architecture featuring irregular or curved shapes.

Frequently asked questions

How does the addition of beams in the Ridgelight 5° system affect structural load requirements?

The beams in Ridgelight at 5° support the skylights and create the 5° pitch. There are two beam design options: the horizontal beam with rectangular profile or the parallel beam with curved profile. These prefabricated steel beams support the modules and distribute loads to the sub-construction.

Is there an option for integrating shading or ventilation systems with Ridgelight 5° with beams?

Yes, Ridgelight at 5° with beams can incorporate venting modules (HVC-C for comfort ventilation or HVC-A for smoke ventilation) and integrated roller blinds. The blinds are available in three fire-retardant fabric colors: white, grey, and black. Both venting modules and blinds can be controlled via VELUX io-homecontrol® or connected to building management systems.

How do I maintain the structural integrity and appearance of the beams over time?

The beams are made of steel with powder coating (white RAL 9010, gloss 30 as standard). General best practices for painted steel would apply, including inspection for corrosion or damage to the coating.

What type of finish options are available for the beams, and how do they affect durability?

As standard, the beams come with white RAL 9010, gloss 30 powder coating. If fire resistance is required, they can be coated with fire-resistant paint.

What is the maximum span capability of the beam systems for Ridgelight at 5°, and what factors limit this span?

The minimum and maximum height restrictions of the modules serve as limiting factors for the span of the beams. The opening width for fixed modules ranges from 1.8 to 6.2 meters, and from 1.8 to 5.0 meters for venting modules

How do the horizontal rectangular beam and the parallel curved beam options differ?

Both beams are hollow and made of steel. The main difference is the visual expression. The parallel beam follows the slope of the skylight modules where the bottom of horizontal beam is flat and follows a horizontal line across the opening width.

What are the fire resistance ratings for the beams when used with fire-resistant skylight modules (HFS)?

Beams can be coated with fire-resistant paint providing up to 30 minutes of fire resistance (for use with fire resistant modules). Always take into consideration that it is only possible to make beams fire rated for up to 30 minutes. If fire rating demands exceed 30 minutes, 5° ridgelight configurations are not suited for your installation.

Is it possible to integrate supplementary lighting systems into the beam structure, and what considerations should be made?

No, this is not possible as the beams only serve as structural support for the skylight modules.

What are the acoustic implications of the beam structure, particularly in terms of sound reflection in the interior space?

The beams would likely create some hard, reflective surfaces in the interior space that could affect acoustics, but we have no data on specific performance characteristics in this case, nor have we design limitations related to sound reflection.
