Atrium Longlight and Ridgelight solutions enable great daylight design in buildings with large, open atriums.
Modular Skylights enable fast and intuitive design when multiple rows are simply put together to cover the atrium – big or small.
For maximum daylight, we recommend either mono-pitched Longlights installed at low angle or Ridgelights at 5° with beams.
For optimum thermal comfort, we recommend Ridgelights 25-40° with venting modules.
For Ridgelights 25-40°, optional gable modules can be supplied with different types of glass or infill panels, depending on the visual expression you want to achieve with the installation.
The rooflights are connected via drainage gutters and supported by structural beams. The beams also serve as support for the sub-construction used for mounting the skylight modules.
VELUX skylight specialists offer support throughout design, specification and installation, including design of structural beams and drainage gutters. Please note that the structural beams, drainage gutters and sub-constructions are not included in the VELUX delivery.
Create a unique skylight solution
By adapting the interior linings, the Modular Skylights can meet the demands of modern architecture featuring irregular or curved shapes, e.g. obtuse angles, acute angles or ovals.
Asymmetrical solutions
The great flexibility of Modular Skylights enables design of asymmetrical atrium solutions.
Combining solutions
Combining different types of modules creates beautiful solutions that optimize comfort and ventilation. Let us help you find the right solution for your next design idea.
The Atrium Longlight/Ridgelight solutions consist of several rows of skylight modules attached to each other in the sub-construction, separated by drainage gutters. This configuration allows for much larger roof openings than standard installations, maximizing natural daylight in large areas. The modular design creates a continuous daylighting solution across extensive roof areas, flooding interior spaces with balanced natural light.
The Atrium solutions offer several advantages: they can cover much larger areas with a consistent, modular design; they provide excellent thermal and acoustic performance; they can incorporate venting modules for natural ventilation; they utilize factory-prefabricated components for faster, more predictable installation; and they offer various glazing options to optimize light transmission and solar control for specific project needs.
Like all VELUX Modular Skylights, they feature high-performance glazing with various coating options that can be selected to balance light transmission (up to 80%) and solar heat gain. The large, glass roof maximizes natural daylight, potentially reducing artificial lighting needs during daylight hours. Read more about skylight energy performance here.
All VELUX Modular Skylights achieve a watertightness rating of E1200, tested up to pressures equivalent to 155 km/h wind speeds. The drainage gutters between rows, which can be sourced from other suppliers, are an important feature for managing rainwater.
Proper ventilation can be achieved by incorporating venting modules (HVC-C for comfort ventilation or HVC-A for smoke ventilation) within the Atrium solution. These modules can be controlled via VELUX io-homecontrol® or connected to building management systems for automated operation. Positioning venting modules at the highest points helps create natural stack ventilation to efficiently remove warm air.
Yes, the Atrium solution can, like the standard solutions, be fitted with integrated roller blinds that fit perfectly into the window opening. These blinds are available in three fire-retardant fabric colours: white, grey, and black. The blinds can be controlled using either VELUX io-homecontrol® or an Open System solution (±24V DC) that can integrate with building management systems.
The standard maintenance approach applies: 1-2 annual cleanings, clearing debris from flashings, and conducting an annual function test of venting modules. For all electrical components, we recommend switching off power during servicing in a way that prevents accidental reactivation, such as using a key switch.
All VELUX Modular Skylights offer sound reduction values ranging from 35 (-1;-5) to 38 (-1;-4) dB depending on the glazing variant. Triple glazing generally provides better acoustic performance than double glazing, with some variants reaching 42 (-2;-6) dB reduction.
