VELUX Glazing Panels can be configured in multiple solutions, by combining the various installation options with gable and corner solutions. The bespoke nature of the system enables you to design almost any rooflight for public and commercial buildings.

Our glazing panels are delivered with a 10-year guarantee on panels and flashings. Actuators and electrical components that are a part of the glazing panel system come with a 3-year guarantee.

Glazing panel specialists offer support throughout design, specification and installation, including a project specific sub-construction drawing with measurements for the outer geometry.

The panels and key accessories are prefabricated off-site, thus facilitating a quick and safe installation. Please note that sub-constructions are not included in the VELUX offering.

Overview of the solution possibilities with
VELUX Glazing Panels

1 — Hip

A hip is an external facing corner solution used to connect two adjacent sloping sides of a rooflight. It is commonly used to create hipped gables in dual-pitched solutions.

2 — Valley

A valley is an internal facing corner solution used in the intersection between two individual rooflights. It can be used to connect two adjacent buildings.

3 — Vertical glass gable

A vertical glass gable is a section of vertical glazing made up of one or more panels located at the end of a mono-pitched solution or dual-pitched solution.

4 — Step solution

VELUX Glazing Panels can be configured in a step by installing multiple rows of panels on top of each other using a structural beam to connect the rows.

5 — Pyramid

A pyramid comprises three or more triangular glazed sides, connected using hipped corner solutions. For a small solution, it is possible to create a self-supporting pyramid, for bigger solutions, a support structure with hips and beams is required.

6 — Mono-pitched

Mono-pitched solutions are single rows of glazing panels installed between 15-90° on either an upstand (on a flat roof), in a saw tooth roof or as a non-protruding installation in a sloped roof. Solutions mounted against a vertical wall can be installed in pitches between 15-60°.

Sub-construction

A hassle-free installation starts with the sub-construction

VELUX Glazing Panels require an accurate, fixed and dimensioned sub-construction. For each project, a specific sub-construction drawing will be prepared with measurements for the outer geometry of the sub-construction. The strength of the sub-construction must be calculated for the individual project, based on the building design and application size. To be able to correctly install VELUX Glazing Panels, the sub-construction must be parallel to the panel itself.

The sub-construction is not part of the bespoke glazing system, and the VELUX Group does not take responsibility for the sub-construction.

What types of solutions do glazing panels provide?

VELUX Glazing Panels offer versatile solutions to meet a broad spectrum of architectural needs. They can be used in straightforward configurations with standard rectangular panels or integrated into more complex designs incorporating triangular, trapezoidal, pentagonal, hexagonal, or other custom-shaped glass panels.

What are the opening options available for glazing panels?

VELUX Glazing Panels can be equipped with either a crossbar or a fully concealed motor (available for the triple-glazed version). The crossbar supports both chain and spindle motors, while the concealed option features a specially developed integrated chain motor. Notably, the opening panels require no additional framing, resulting in cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing solutions without compromising U-values or airtightness. A unique advantage of this system is its adaptability—fixed panels can be retrofitted to openable units even after installation.

What are the frame dimensions of glazing panels?

The glazing panels are engineered with some of the slimmest frames on the market. The visible frame dimensions for double-glazed panels are 50 mm in width and 74 mm in height. For triple-glazed panels, the dimensions are 52 mm in width and 98 mm in height. These minimal profiles not only enhance visual appeal but also allow greater levels of natural daylight to enter the space.

Does installation require on-site handling of glass?

No. All panels are delivered fully pre-assembled, eliminating the need for any glass handling on site. This approach enhances health and safety, ensures factory-controlled quality, and allows for efficient installation in any weather conditions, significantly reducing on-site labour time.

Yes, this bespoke glass roof system is highly reliable. Originally developed under the VITRAL brand, the concept dates back to the early 1950s and has been continuously refined to incorporate modern technologies while maintaining a strong focus on quality and design.
